FILM SCORE

Each song tells a narrative. Even instrumental music can convey a narrative to the listener, whether a slow, heartbreaking song about two star-crossed lovers or an exhilarating, cymbal-filled tale of a titanic battle between two armies.
A song that doesn't tell a story or elicit emotion from its listeners is impossible to find. Maybe that's why we listen to music so much as people; it gives us the comfort of having a narrative outside of our own to accompany us on our travels and provide us with courage when we face challenges.

These songs give movies this emotional heft and give their narratives something more compelling for viewers to connect with than just acting. The score essentially gives the film an additional dimension. They now appeal to the viewers' visual and auditory senses rather than just their visual senses. It's just common sense: the more senses engaged, the more interesting something will seem to a person (in some cases- not all).

For a society accustomed to being inundated with information and flashing signs, scoring is essential to modern films because it gives the picture an additional dimension. It is also one of the key elements in maintaining audiences' interest and emotional investment in the movie.

Here's a film score Matt recently produced from a short film "Waysland".

They increase the likelihood that the movie will succeed because they captivate the audience and let them delve deeper into the world it is portraying. But most importantly, that makes a significant contribution to that feeling of total satisfaction that comes after the first set of onscreen credits.
